447 curated trails across 15 parks — focused on Harpers Ferry NHP and the three-state Potomac/Shenandoah confluence.

Live · updated

West Virginia trails in our coverage focus on Harpers Ferry National Historical Park — the historic three-state town at the Potomac/Shenandoah confluence. Maryland Heights, Loudoun Heights, and Bolivar Heights all rise directly from Harpers Ferry with significant elevation gain and panoramic views over the gap. The Appalachian Trail crosses the Potomac on the railroad-bridge footwalk here, making Harpers Ferry the symbolic midpoint of the AT (and the actual headquarters of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy). Beyond Harpers Ferry, the broader WV trail network reaches into Monongahela National Forest and the high Allegheny country — future coverage as the site grows.

Permits, parking, and access

Harpers Ferry NHP charges a per-vehicle entry fee that covers a three-day window; the America the Beautiful annual pass covers it. The main NPS lot at Cavalier Heights is the primary trailhead; a free shuttle runs into the historic district. Roadside parking on US-340 is prohibited and actively enforced. WV State Parks generally have free entry; trailhead lots fill on peak weekends but are rarely a hard constraint outside Harpers Ferry.
