Spruce Knob

A flat, family-friendly loop following the shore of 25-acre Spruce Knob Lake, the highest lake in West Virginia at 3,840 feet; passes pine woods, wildflower shorelines, and boardwalks, with a bald eagle nest on the far side.

A gentle half-mile loop circling the summit of Spruce Knob, at 4,863 feet the highest point in West Virginia; passes a stone observation tower with panoramic views and interpretive signs on the high country.

A ridge-crest trail running through red spruce forest and huckleberry heath along the high plateau near Spruce Knob; a longer, quieter route toward West Virginia's highpoint with sweeping ridge views.

Follows upper Seneca Creek through spruce forest and mountain meadows with many creek crossings, passing Seneca Falls; forms the heart of the classic Spruce Knob-Seneca Creek backpacking loop.
