Sugarloaf Mountain
Sugarloaf Mountain is a small mountain and park about 10 miles (16 km) south of Frederick, Maryland. The closest village is Barnesville, located just over one mile from the foot of the mountain. The peak of this relatively low mountain is approximately 800 feet higher than the surrounding farmland. It is visible from many parts of northern Montgomery County and southern Frederick County, notably from I-270 north of the town of Germantown. Because of its geological and natural history interest, it was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1969. It is a notable example of an admission-free, privately owned scenic park.

Mountain Loop Trail
A white-blazed loop of about 2.5 miles circling the base of Sugarloaf Mountain through mixed forest, often combined with the summit trails for a fuller tour of the mountain's overlooks.
A.M. Thomas Trail
The green-blazed summit trail climbing from the East View parking area to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain, the shortest and steepest route to the summit overlooks. Named for Stronghold's first superintendent.
Northern Peaks Trail
A blue-blazed loop of about 5 miles from the West View lot over Sugarloaf's northern peaks, with views from White Rocks and the Bill Lambert Overlook. Rocky, rooted footing with several short, steep pitches.
