Delaware is small but its trail country splits cleanly between two regions. Northern Delaware (New Castle County) sits in the Piedmont province with rolling hills, hardwood forest, and creek-cut ravines — White Clay Creek State Park, Brandywine Creek State Park, and Alapocas Run hold the best singletrack the state offers. Central and southern Delaware shifts to coastal-plain flatness; the trail experience there is dominated by the Atlantic state parks (Cape Henlopen, Delaware Seashore, Trap Pond) where the draw is shore access, not elevation.

Permits, parking, and access
Delaware State Parks charge a per-vehicle entry fee from March 1 through November 30; entry is free in winter months. Out-of-state vehicles pay more than DE-registered vehicles. An annual DE State Park pass covers unlimited entry and pays for itself in three or four visits. Federal NPS units in Delaware (First State NHP) generally have free trail access.
